Tyrol is a region that fascinates many winter sports enthusiasts. Whether pistes or cross-country trails – Tyrol offers a wide range of events for sportsmen and women in winter. Here you can learn more about the most important cross-country skiing events in Tyrol.
The International Dolomite Run
Already the 41st edition of the international Dolomite Run took place in January 2015. This cross-country skiing event is part of the annual winter sports panorama of Tyrol and has meanwhile made a name for itself as the largest cross-country skiing event in Austria.
The great thing about this run is that everyone gets their money’s worth – whether professionals or amateurs, seniors or bambinis. There is something for every age group. The starting point is Lienz.
The BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup
Every year in December the Biathlon World Cup takes place in Hochfilzen. Whether sprinting in the cross-country track or hitting the bull’s eye at the shooting range – at the BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup the best biathletes will compete.
The World Cup is organized every year by HSV Hochfilzen and leads through the romantic Pillerseetal.
The Achensee Run (Raiffeisen-Steinöl-Trophy)
The Nordic Achensee Run takes place in January, just like the Dolomite Run. By the way, the route does not, as one might assume because of the name, lead around the Achensee, but leads into the Oberautal on the north-western shore of the Achensee, which belongs to the community of Achenkirch.
The race is divided into several categories and age groups, adults can test themselves on 30 kilometers (4 laps) and 15 kilometers (2 laps). Of course there are also runs for children and teenagers.
The Achensee 3 Valleys run
The Achensee-3-Täler-Lauf also takes place in this tourist region of Tyrol – but in this case, the cross-country skiers will start in Pertisau.
This run leads through the three Karwendel valleys: the Falzthurn valley, the Gerntal and Tristenau. The skating course is 30 kilometers long, the classic course 33 kilometers. The youngsters only have to complete half of the distance.
The participants in this race are a mixed bunch, and the young cross-country skiers are also happy to meet here.
The SKI-TRAIL in the Tannheimer Tal-Bad Hindelang
In the Tannheimer Tal in the west of Tyrol, the SKI-TRAIL is organized every year in January. This cross-country skiing event is organized by the cross-country skiing professionals Peter Schlickenrieder and Georg Zipfel. Especially the side-events, technical Parcours and runs for children of 2 and 4 kilometers in length attract many participants and visitors every year.
The International Koasalauf
“Koasa” is the Tyrolean name for a special trail. At “Koasa” takes this international cross-country skiing event place. Annually at the beginning of February.
During this event on the trails of the Kitzbühel Alps, adults can try their hand at classic skiing on 28 kilometers and 50 kilometers, while the youngest (7 years and older) can give their best at 800 meters.
